Seven Kings Fellowship of Churches Lent Service

Tonight at 8.00pm at Seven Kings United Free Church the Seven Kings Fellowship of Churches will be celebrating and giving thanks for the learning we have done together as part of this year's Lent Course - 'Build on the Rock: Faith, doubt and Jesus'. Our Lent Service will include feedback from each of the three groups that studied the Course.

We have had an excellent Lent Course this year as can be judged by some of the feedback from those who took part:

  • "We had some very deep discussions. Our discussion about death was particularly interesting, thoughtful and deep."
  • "I appreciated thinking about Jesus as 'friend' and 'brother'. This was a new way of thinking. I had to stop and think about what we are really saying when we call Jesus our 'brother'."
  • "Asking why God leads us to pray was thought-provoking and important for me."
  • "You think you're not that good as a Christian but to then hear that we all struggle with doubt, it makes you realise that you're not odd."

People liked the quotes in the course booklet ("I was surprised that some of those quoted had a Christian faith") and the range of perspectives from those interviewed on the course CD. We also liked working together with people from other churches and hearing different perspectives when discussing topics.

Evening Service with the UFC Band

On Sunday 2nd February at 6.30pm our worship at St John's Seven Kings will be led by the United For Christ (UFC) Band, a worship band made up of young people from the Ilford Bible Study group (including young people from our own congregation).

The band last led our Evening worship in April 2013 on Arts & Entertainment Sunday and have also performed worship songs at the Tamil Carol Services. We look forward to their return to St John’s and encourage you to come along to support young people in their faith and to be blessed by their ministry to us.

Praise in the Park (4)

Fr. Benjamin Rutt-Field leading the event

Churches in Redbridge joined together today for Praise on the Green at St Peter's Aldborough Hatch. The event, which in the past has been held in Seven Kings Park, was moved this year because of new Council charges and regulations but still attracted 70 people from churches including Holy Trinity Barkingside, Ilford Corps Salvation Army, Seven Kings Methodist Church, Seven Kings United Free Church, St John's Seven Kings, St Paul's Goodmayes, St Peter's Aldborough Hatch and St Teresa's Newbury Park.

The Salvation Army band of the Ilford Corps led by Captain John Smith played a wide selection of popular hymns including: Kum Ba Yah, Lord of the Dance, Sing Hosanna, Thine Be The Glory, and To God Be The Glory, among others. A selection of local ministers led prayers and Monica Abdala spoke about the concern of Redbridge Street Pastors to engage on the streets with young people who feel themselves to be excluded and marginalised.

The Salvation Army is an international Christian church working in 118 countries worldwide. As a registered charity, The Salvation Army demonstrates its Christian principles through social action and is one of the largest, most diverse providers of social welfare in the world.
