'We are recruiting for the Sophia Course Thursday afternoons (school time) in March. Do you know people that would find it valuable or want to come along yourself! Click here for more information.

We are also recruiting for our 3rd community skills swap event which is on a weekday evening - Thursday 5th March. See here for the wide range of skills being shared.

We have an important enterprise club this week with Robert Jackson, Accountant, looking at what you need to do to have your finances and papers and registrations all in place (good business managment) to prevent big problems later on. Click here for more information about how Robert will run the session.

We will be setting up a meeting soon for all green businesses in the area - do you consider your business green or know one - please get in touch. Here's more info about our plan. You can also have a free stall at the climate change film event in Wanstead on 6th March. info/flyer here

Its the Chambers breakfast this Tuesday and Vic Norman will be speaker. Info here.

We had a great session with East London Radio last week with a good turnout and here's the report and what the radio can do for you and they want to partner with you!

Finally, please, please Like the Sophia Hubs/Timebank Facebook pages, and follow our 2 Twitter accounts. See below. Thanks! And tell us yours.

Sophia Hub update

Ros Southern writes;

'Vic Norman led a powerful session at the enterprise club on Tuesday and vastly increasing social media skills is the focus of January and the whole year! Read here about the enterprise club session and follow up help.

We are getting help to run a Redbridge portal for start-ups and there is a social media working session on Tuesday 20th January at the enterprise club, so put the date in your diaries. (see above link)

Blogging and linking to each other's websites is the best way to promote your business. Read Manzoor Ahmed's guest blog here and please send me yours.

Plans for the Timebank community skills swap are going well (Taira Khan is leading a creative writing session and Vic Norman a twitter training) - please publcise and let us know your ideas. Flyer here.

The East London Small Business Centre is coming to Sophia Hubs for Tuesday's lunch time enterprise club (13th January at 12.30) for a practical session and info on loads of resources. Click here to see what Claudia will be covering.

Thanks for the responses to last week's requests for mentors and expert help. More needed, and especially volunteers willing to help start ups and Sophia Hubs with social media.'

Sophia Hub update

Ros Southern writes:

'Tomorrow at the Tuesday lunchtime enterprise club we have local business man Vic Norman of London Pub Tours and others, speaking on managing your business online. Vic is a business lecturer at Redbridge Institute. Come at 12.30 for prompt start at 12.45. More info here.

Our first Timebank community skills swap at the start-up cafe Flirt was a great success. The next one is Saturday morning 24 January 2015. This is a great opportunity to trade on the sharing economy by either giving or taking help from community members. A community event that can help your start-up. More info here.

Thanks to Aidan for the enterprise club session last week on the business canvas model. Info here.

Thanks to the Redbridge Chamber of Commerce for offering a year's free membership to start-ups. Find out about the breakfast networking events here. A great opportunity. Info here

Finally we want to establish a big team of people in business who can support start-ups through being on hand for advice at the enterprise club, helping us develop our services as well as taking on more formal mentoring roles. Know anyone? You're interested? Please make contact.'

Sophia Hub update

Ros Southern writes:

"This is the last email of the year and thanks to you all for such a fascinating and productive 2014. The community development 'asset-based' approach has worked wonders in building such a strong community network of support for and between start-ups in the Borough.

Just in case you've forgotten - Sophia is the goddess of wisdom and our way of working is to find the wisdom in the community and faith communities and then harness it. Simple!

Final bits are:
  • No enterprise club this week.
  • The Tuesday lunchtime enterprise club on 30th December 12.45-2.15 is on the business canvas model which we think is the best one for start-ups to use. Click to find out about it here. Bring and share lunch from 12.15.
  • Advance notice of speaker for Tuesday 5th January 12.45-2.30 is Vic Norman who is a lecturer at Redbridge Institute on business and runs a few very succesful businesses himself. Managing your start-up on line.
  • Thanks to Nicky Das from the plumbing supplies shop for speaking last week at the enterprise club. Very useful.
  • Finally, the wonderful Timebank has got going now with over 60 members, and here is a great and original cartoon strip by local artist Sam Cowan on how wonderful the Timebank is!
Have a great Christmas and New Year.
