"Firstly there is a fabulous pilot business hub on the top floor of the Exchange in Ilford in the month of October and Sophia Hubs, Seven Kings, is a partner. This has been spearheaded by Work Redbridge and Vision with other partners including Chamber of Commerce, Redbridge Insitute, Redbridge College and the Volunteer Centre. Tuesday is Sophia Hubs day! We will run our lunch time enterprise club there plus offer a range of taster sessions and promotinal opportunities for our start-ups. More information here.

Our first anniversary celebration event on Tuesday 30th September is also an important date for your diaries. We will bring together the start-ups we have been working with, the business community and speakers that have been supporting us and community/faith groups. There will be rich conversation, important networking and a time to reflect on the needs of the community. 5.45 - 8.30. Flyer here - please pass on.

Our enterprise club speaker on Tuesday next week (16th September) will be Keith Young of Ilford Recycles. This is a project that brings in most income through trading but also relies on grant funding. Keith will share his knowledge gained from 1 year of operation, his problems of getting organised with paper work and finding premises. Photo and more info here.

Thanks so much to our speaker this week - Atacan Mercer - whose advice was to keep a beginners mind. A very successful design start-up which was inspiring to hear about and helpful. Followed by networking as always and more deals were brokered! Photo and info here

Timebank update: There are 40 people registered and lots of interest. 17 hours have been officially traded but it is taking a while to sort out quick and effective registration and following up of references. It will be a vibrant economy very soon. Thank you for your patience and interest.

And finally, the first big delivery of re-used paint has gone to .... Parkside Community Association. This is part of a partnership with Forest Recycling Project in Waltham Forest to promote recycling and kick start green businesses in Redbridge. There's lots more free paint going. "On Thursday - 28th - we have our second Timebank training event - An Introduction to Twitter. This means that a member of our community with a skill to share, this time Rev Jonathan Evens, will volunteer his time and others can come along and 'spend' or 'donate' their hour to the Timebank. We are excited that this new Redbridge currency is starting to circulate. This is open to everyone in Redbridge, not just start-ups. It's from 2-3pm. If you are already a member of the Timebank, please email to let us know you want a place. If you are not a member, you can sign up here, email or ring if you need help, or turn up at 1pm on Thursday and we will start off your registration process. Everyone gets 5 hours credit for signing up! More information here.

The next Sophia Course that the Seven Kings & Newbury Park Sophia Hub is running is specifically for residents of Valentines Ward. See above for details.

Want help signing up to the Sophia Hub's Timebank? Turn up at St. John's Seven Kings (IG2 7BB) between 10.00 am and 12.00 noon on Monday (15th June). But try on your own first at www.sophiahubs.com/sevenkingstimebank. You will need an email account.

On Monday 30th June we will be hearing from David Alcock, a Senior Associate at Anthony Collins Solicitors, who will be talking to the Enterprise Club about legal structures for social enterprises. Rather than our usual Tuesday afternoon session this specially arranged session will be on Monday 30th June from 10.30 am. 

David leads the firm’s work with community organisations, social enterprises and co-operatives.  He is a specialist in governance issues in the third sector, and is also at the forefront of developing new mutual models of delivering public services.  He has advised numerous organisations on governance and contractual matters at board level, as well as training new and potential board members on their duties and responsibilities.  He has helped a number of organisations navigate significant governance challenges successfully, including major governance reviews and sensitive non executive director matters. 

He has also led throughout on the firm’s work with community asset transfer, including coordinating the model guidance and documents for the Asset Transfer Unit, and advice on the community rights under the Localism Act.  He is a keen supporter of the wider movement, was a board member of the Development Trust Association prior to the merger which formed Locality, and is currently on the board of the Meanwhile Foundation and inter-faith charity the Feast.

"I am pleased to introduce the speaker for Tuesdays LUNCHTIME Enterprise club (change of time!!!) as Stephanie Mugo who has set up a start up osteomyology alternative therapy business in Dagenham.  Read about it here plus the new times. 

Thanks so much to Nigel Camp for leading our last enterprise club and the promise of supporting us in a creating a group blog and a group video!

I am also very pleased to introduce our new Sophia Hubs website and Timebank website and info about it here. 

After a very productive meeting with Redbridge Institute last week we are strongly recommending our start-ups to join a 5 week evening course that only costs £10 starting Monday 9th June.  More info here.  We are going to support the students who have been on this course to develop their networks and offer ongoing back up support. 

Thanks to all those that helped on our stall at the Redbridge Green Fair.

Seven Kings Sophia Hub at the Redbridge Green Fair

Seven Kings Sophia Hub had a good day today at the Redbridge Green Fair in the Enterprise Zone with I Am Young and Forest Recyling Project. We were promoting the Paint Project, Timebank, Enterprise Club and Sophia Course in particular. The Green Fair very well attended and was an excellent event with a very wide range of stalls, attractions and refreshments. As ever, it was very good to link up with I Am Young and Forest Recyling Project.

Here is the latest from Ros Southern regarding the Seven Kings & Newbury Park Sophia Hub:

"We are delighted to announce that we have set up a partnership with Forest Recycling Project (Waltham Forest) to support new enterprises in Redbridge using reclaimed materials.  Funded by Redbridge Council we have 7000 litres of free recycled paint for a business to distribute to community groups plus many more possibilities.
