Ghost Town is laugh-out-loud funny while 1408 is a psychological thriller that, while not as scary as the publicity would have you believe, keeps your interest through the twists and turns of its plot. Although using opposite genres (comedy and horror) the link between both is the way we respond to death including our sense of being haunted by those we have loved and lost and by our part in the events leading to their death. Ghost Town sees its central characters finding release from their sense of being haunted while in 1408 there is no escape for the central character but a choice to be made as to whether others should suffer as he has done.
