Church water bills petition

Changes in water charging structures in a number of regions mean that churches are beginning to be charged on the same scale as businesses, leading to large (for example, 1300%) increases in annual water bills.

There is an online government petition that you can use to register your concern - http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ChurchWaterBills - which petitions the Prime Minister to instruct water companies to return to charging churches as charities rather than as business premises. Please think about signing the petition and ask anyone else who you would feel appropriate.

I am lucky enough to live in an area where the basis of charging has yet to change.

I checked our current chuch water bill (one tap) from Thames Water and at £93.00 a year it's cheap, perhaps too cheap and we'd have no issue with paying the 'domestic rate' (around £300),

However my shock at the potential charge if Thames followed the Northumbrian and UU lead of charging by built area was immense.

We would face a charge of around £2000 per annum. That is simple obscene.
