My whole family are very grateful for all the messages and prayers of our friends and family as we cope with the illness of my father.
What has happened is that a bleed in the brain was followed by successful surgery to release pressure on the brain. However, following that surgery, my father had a cardiac arrest and required resuscitation. The combination of brain damage from that episode and fluid on one lung leaves him in a position where the medical diagnosis is that he is unlikely to regain a significant quality of life.
He is currently in intensive care and we continue to visit him and to pray for him. The following prayer, sent by Peter Challen, is one that I have found of particular help:
Living God,
calm the soul,
strengthen the body,
inspire the mind,
of this your servant,
that wholeness may pervade
his life and energise
the resilience that heals.
